Getting Ads For Things I Talk About Reddit

I noticed that I was getting ads based on conversations I was having (in-person) while I wasn't using my phone. As a joke, last weekend my friend and I started excessively talking about buying cat litter. Today, I received this ad.

They think I'm paranoid because I don't have a smart phone.

Or Spi-Phone as I prefer to think of them.

A while ago my sister was talking about a drag show brunch she went to that was really fun and then I saw an ad for THAT SAME DRAG SHOW on Facebook. When I had never even searched anything in my phone about it or anything. And never had any ads for any shows before that.

Less creepy. Likely an algorithm knows your sister was there and served you the ad based on this relationship and the amount of time you spend looking at traps.

Big Litter is at it again...

We picked cat litter to talk about on purpose. We thought there's no way cat litter companies give a shit.

Depending on what phone you have, you have to forbid all apps to use you microphone. Also, you might want to find you phones/tablets „personalized advertising settings" and you „advertising ID". You should be able to delete the ID and disable personalized ads.

If it helps, I've been seeing that litter ad a lot, and don't have, google or discuss cats. No doubt there's creepy ad stuff going on with our devices, but sometimes it's just that you start seeing that thing everywhere once you're already thinking about it.

Delete Facebook messenger.

This shit happens all the time to me. It creeps me out so much. I really need to delve into my settings and remove lurking evil advertising genie.

Had a customer talking to me about their boutique which i had never heard of, been to, or searched online before... go on break after and that was the first thing to show up on fb

What you need to do is note the ads that you see now and then talk about something that has been showing up and see if it shows up more and also talk about something that hasn't shown up and see if it shows up. It could easily be random chance.

You're completely right! This wasn't meant to be a thorough research experiment.

You know too much. Pulls out silenced 9mm

My phone did something similar the other day. I had it sitting in front of me on the desk, unlocked as I was about to make a call, but no apps were active yet. My boss asked me if I'd heard of some kind of product, and I repeated the name back to her, intending to do a google search on my pc. My phone, all by itself, pulls up a fucking google search for the name of the product. It's not a Google Home, it's a damn phone. That shit is beyond creepy. It's apparently listening to every word I say.

ive seen this ad many times lately and I have not once discussed buying cat litter in text or in person...maybe they just figure everyone who spends a lot of time on social media is lonely and has a lot of cats so this is a good place to advertise.

This explains all the online therapy ads I'm getting
